When buying a new car, you need to consider purchasing auto insurance along with it. Having auto insurance acts like a failsafe when you get into an accident. Car insurance covers a lot of incidents, which includes car theft, car accident injuries, and repairs. However, there are a few things that your auto insurance will not cover. Here are five surprising incidents that are not covered by your auto insurance. Theft of Personal Belongings in Car
When your car gets stolen, you can rest comfortably knowing that your auto insurance covers for the incident. However, the personal belongings inside your vehicle remain your responsibility. Also, auto insurance does not cover theft of personal items when a thief breaks into your car. Car Accident by A Loved One Not Listed on the Insurance Policy If there will be a chance that you let a relative or a friend drive your car, you must list their names in the car insurance policy. When your car crashes by a loved one whose name is not on the insurance policy, do not expect your auto insurance to pay for the damages and medical costs. Custom Parts If you have an obsession with cars, it is tempting to customize parts and engines of the vehicle. But when a car accident happens, the auto insurance company will not pay for custom equipment you added to the car. Auto insurance will not cover items such as TVs, communication installations, custom rims, paint job, and enhanced exhaust systems. Using Car for Business Use When you use your car as transportation for hire for carpooling companies or delivering products on a daily basis, then auto insurance is out of the conversation. Auto insurance covers vehicular accidents when you use your car for the commute. Even when you use your vehicle for a part-time delivery job, you risk the chances of getting your insurance policy canceled. Car Loan on the Event of Total Vehicle Wreckage Imagine if a car accident leaves you unharmed but wrecks your vehicle. While it is fortunate that you got out of the incident alive, you can no longer use your car. What’s worse is that you used a car loan to pay for the first three years. Auto insurance will not pay for your loan balance. While auto insurance omits a few things from its coverage, it remains your best safety net when an incident occurs. Fortunately, there are a lot of specific insurance policies that can help you bolster your auto insurance. Thank you for making it clear that most auto insurance companies won't cover your car if you use it for a carpooling service. I don't plan on doing that any time soon so I think it would be a safe bet to get a car and have it insured. I appreciate your concerns though and teaching me what won't be covered.
